Playing and Meditating with Mandalas

Mandala with starsDo you think that coloring in is only for children?
Think again!

It can be very meditative and relaxing when we spend time to color in Mandalas.
Doing this is just for our own benefit and the outcome doesn’t matter. Nobody has to see it.
You don’t even have to keep the end result, the positive effects are in the process. Like with a lot of things in life.

Mandala – sanskrit for Circle – has been used since ancient times for self reflection, centering and relaxtion.

Looking at mandalas and coloring them in can be very therapeutic!

Benefits of Laughter

Laugh out loudLaughter has many Health Benefits

How does laughter make you feel?

Have you ever had a time when you laughed a lot in a short time? How was that?

Laughter is the (best) Medicine’ is one of the sayings.

Now research confirms that laughter has beneficial effects on our well being.

A good belly laugh not only brings more oxygen to our lungs it also helps expel stale air (carbon dioxide CO2).

Most people have a residue of 2500-2800 ml CO2 in their lungs. So the more this gets expelled the more oxygen can be taken in. Continue reading Benefits of Laughter

Smile

Smile and feel goodHave you noticed how people light up when they smile? Do you think that you light up like that when you smile. I am sure you do.

When you are out and about, have you ever noticed how many people smile?

How about when you walk around with a smile, do people respond by smiling back?

A smile is like a free gift we can give to another, even a stranger in passing and very often that gift will be passed on to the next person; it may even ‘come back’ to you.

A smileSmile

  • makes you feel good
  • releases serotonin
  • produces endorphins
  • makes you look good
  • makes others feel good
  • relieves stress
  • is contagious
  • is beautiful
  • inspires others
  • helps with the immune system
  • makes you appear confident and capable
  • feels like eating chocolate
  • makes you appear more attractive

Researchers of the British Dental Health Foundations measured the activity of the heart and brain of volunteers. Pictures of smiling people were shown and they were given  money and chocolate. The research showed that a smile and eating  chocolate  produced the same level of stimulation.

Dr. Nigel Carter, chief executive of the Foundation, pointed out, “We have long been drawing attention to the fact that smiling increases happiness both in yourself and those around you, so it is good to receive the backing of this scientific research … A healthy smile can improve your confidence, help you make friends and help you to succeed in your career … “

What’s even better is that the more you smile, the more others will too. Dr. David Lewis a psychologist, “Seeing a smile creates what is termed as a ‘halo’ effect, helping us to remember other happy events more vividly, feel more optimistic, more positive and more motivated.”

Have you heard the old saying?

“A smile is a little curve that sets a lot of things straight.”

🙂 🙂 🙂  🙂 🙂  🙂 🙂  🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂  🙂 🙂  🙂 🙂  🙂

Did you know it takes 26 muscles to Smile?

And 62 muscles to frown!

Try this:

Smile for 60 seconds. Remember you are releasing endorphins and serotonin while you are doing it.

Maybe you would like to start each day with smiling for 60 seconds to set the tone for the day?

Do you want to step it up?

Smile at yourself for 60 seconds in the mirror.

Another option:

Get together with a friend and smile at each other for 60 seconds.

By the way if you start to giggle, chuckle or even laugh that’s ok too.

Play Good for Business and Success

Play, boy playing at beachIs the time we play as adults just for fun or waste of time?

What happens if we did not get enough play when we were children, did it affect our development?

These are the questions Stuart Brown and Christopher Vaughan explore in the book:
“Play How it shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul”

One of the examples in the book, relating to business, is on page 131 to 132 about how Andrew Grove and Gordon more solved a problem for Intel when Japan came up with a much cheaper memory chip. They realized that if they would not find a solution they would be fired. So they pretended to fire themselves walked out of the office and then walked in as the better and smarter executives that would replace them.As a result of this they led the company into designing and creating microprocessors. You can see the video below in which Stuart Brown talks about Play.

Fun, Happiness and Success

FunHow do Fun and Happiness relate to Success?

How much and Happiness are you having in your day and/or week?

Do you think that doing things that are fun contributes to Success?

According to Colleen C. Barrett, President and Corporate Secretary of Southwest Airlines

“Work is either fun or drudgery. It depends on your attitude.”

So, if we adjust our attitude about what we do then anything could be fun?

University of Florida Management Researcher Erin Fluegge-Woolf said, “One of my findings was that more fun at work also leads to increased engagement.”

Watch the Charlie Chaplin “Modern Times” who kind of – in his slapstick way – makes a point about this.

Charlie tightens nuts on a conveyor belt and a women’s dress.

It also has a ‘presentation’ of the ‘delightful feeding’ machine, which Charlie Chaplin gets to to experience.

This was in 1934.

Charlie Chaplin ranked the 10th greatest screen ledgend of all times by the American Film Institute in 1999.

The video below is a short section out of “Modern Times“.

Here are some words related to fun:

Leisure, recreation, amusement, pleasure, free time, laughter, humor, art, comedy, slapstick, happiness, hobbies.

Do you feel refreshed and energised after you had some fun?

What is your fun?
